Lin & Evel - The guy on the left is Lin Neal, a local drag racer, motocrosser and MAC tool man. The guy on the right offered $2,500 to anyone who could beat him in a quarter mile wheelie contest. His name is Evel Knivel. The reason Lin is smiling so big is because of the $2500 check he is holding and the fact that Mr. Knivel is a man of his word and a real class act. Check out the Knivel link on this page.Click here(Watch those Memfo boys, Evel)
Officers 1970's - The officers of the Memphis Motorcycle Club, Sometime in the late 70's. They don't look like a very dangerous group to me. This club has been AMA sanctioned since 1929 with an AMA charter #104. The club has always had a constantly changing membership. This picture was taken during their "Revenge of the Nerds" phase. That's me on the upper right. They have a new web page now. Check it out .Click here
BMW RAMS Officers 2000 - Officers of the BMW RAMS. Two of these guys are also pictured above, 25 years younger. The RAMS can be found here. UPDATE: This site had been shut down due to some internal problems, but it is up and running again.
Big Al & Elvis - The most famous member of the Memphis Motorcycle Club is pictured with two legendary motorcyclists. Read about Elvis here There isn't enough space on this server to list the contributions made by Al McAlexander to motorcycling in the Memphis area but you could visit Al's Cycle Shop and ask "Little Al" about the old Dixie Riders Motorcycle Club and a TT track in Millington, TN. Al's started out as a Harley shop in the 50's but sold the first Lilac, Velocette, Greeves and yes, the first Hondas in Memphis.
Roy Wells - Roy Wells, a previous president of the Memphis Motorcycle Club, wheelies across my front lawn.
Randy Cleek - Randy Cleek, although not from Memphis, was one of the most popular riders at the indoor short track races at the Memphis Fairgrounds Arena Building. He was known as "Mr. Nice" and anyone who met him knew why he got that nickname. He was 4th place in the AMA points standings when he was killed in a tragic traffic accident in Italy just hours after finishing second in a roadrace against the best European talent. Two of his sponsors riding in the van also died in the crash .
UPDATE: Randys' sister stumbled onto this webpage and contacted me. She has plans to create a website honoring Randys' career and keeping his memory alive for his many fans and admirers. She has honored me by allowing me to be a part of this effort. Please send any comments, info or pictures of Randy you would like to contribute to: swilson5@midsouth.rr.com I will send pictures back after scanning them. Check back here for progress on this project.
Larue Hart - Larue Hart, who has the longest membership in the Memphis Motorcycle Club and has been president several times. This picture was probably taken at one of the many Turkey Runs he has hosted over the years. His events are somewhat famous for being impossible to finish and having water hazards, beaver dams, and live animals. He once staged a turkey run that involved actually catching a live turkey while mounted on a motorcycle!
Super Fred at Riverside - The most sucessful dirt track racer from Memphis was Fred Smith - Riverside Raceway / West Memphis, AR. Fred had national #42 . Since Steve Morehead is the oldest active rider on the Grand National circuit , (with #42) you have some idea how old this picture is.

Bonneville Record Attempt - The Big River Honda Race Team. That's me on the left, casting a shadow on the owner and rider, Don Ingebritzen. Next to him is the Wizard of Odds, Eddie Wilbanks. On the right is Al Juba who along with Don, is a pilot for Federal Express. This motorcycle qualified 16 MPH above the record in APS-750/AB. Clutch slippage prevented the bike from setting a new record.
Record breaking Honda - Les Ranger and his 500cc Honda. This bike has set several records above 170 MPH. Check out the homemade blower drive and water jacket. The Maico forks also make this bike a little different.
Sonny Angel - Sonny Angel, beyond a doubt the most interesting person I have ever met. He hauled this Vincent to Bonneville in a six cylinder van that had 3 on the column and 4 on the floor. (no kidding) He was clocked with a radar gun on this bike at 134 MPH, coming down the return road! He used straight methonal in the tank and turned in some 150 MPH runs but didn't get a record. Not bad for a man of 62!
Gold Wing Lakester - I guess you have to call this one a car but it is powered by a 1000cc motor from a Honda Goldwing.
Kawasaki Lakester - Another lakester powered by a 500cc Kawasaki triple.
12 cylinder Kawasaki - The first motorcycle to go 300 MPH. Also the first motorcycle to fall down going 300 MPH. Powered by two six cylinder Kawasaki engines with one turbocharger feeding both engines.
Gary Nixon - At the 2002 Short Track National in Tunica, I met my dirt track hero Gary Nixon and snapped this picture. He was National Champ twice in the 60's.
