This site uses the Road Runner cable modem from Time Warner Inc. I am pleased with the speed of this system and it has been reliable, at least so far. What I am Not satisfied with is the poor technical support, from Mid-South Roadrunner, the vague and unresponsive management staff and the dismal news and mail service. They also offer a whopping 2 meg for a home page! This means that if you want images on your page, they should be few and small. A couple of full page JPEG images can eat up most of the available space.

My solutions to these problems have been easy in some cases - i.e. use Hotmail.com for mail, it's free and has all the features you could ask for. I use a routing service which provide me web pages of unlimited size at a very reasonable cost. Unfortunately, I really can't do anything about the bad attitude and goofy policies of the management. at Roadrunner.

My problems with Road Runner began with an appointment for the installation and setup of the modem and network card and the software installation. I was advised to back up my computer and run a virus check. I was also told payment of $164 was due upon installation. I took 3 hrs off from work for the installation and they didn't show up. Many phone calls and apologies were made and a new installation date was scheduled. Roadrunner sent 3 installers and they spent several hours but could not get the "cable" light on the modem to come on. Finally, after about 3 hours they gave up and then presented me with a bill for $164 for a system that did not work. I asked to speak with a supervisor and verified that this was indeed the policy. If I did not accept the contract and pay the fee, the network card and modem would be removed and reinstalled at a later date. I didn't sign the workorder and of course they adhered to the "policy" as set forth by Roadrunner. I was out 3 hours pay, had no high speed modem and a growing disdain for the Time-Warner organization. After all, aren't these the same people that brought us Death Row Records?

From this point on the attitude changed. There was no hurry to complete the installation and no apologies or even explanations for the totally inept manner in which this business was conducted. It would turn out to be three more weeks before the Roadrunner was operational. Phone calls to enquire about suspected problems (cable plant, cabling or the modem itself) were met with mostly incoherent babble about specifications unrelated to any question I asked. Finally, it was in. The installer was here for about 45 minutes and I was online. From the first time I used it, I knew it was the way to go. This thing is FAST! I have networked with two other computers in my home and found that my stepson and I can web surf simultaneously with no apparent loss of speed.

I am including some links and information about networking with roadrunner. There are many possibilities to explore. Follow these links and you will have all the info you need to interconnect. Good luck!
